| Abstract: | A comparison of measurements of n2 performed using several methods and wavelengths and conducted in the framework of the European Action COST 241 is presented. The average values of n2 for the two measured fibres, at low frequency, resulted to be 3.0 •10-20m²/W at 1064 nm, and 2.6 •10-20m²/W at 1550 nm in agreement with most recent literature. Strong variation of the measured value with pulse repetition rate was detected, which was explained by excitation of acoustic waves in the fibre under test by electrostriction.[The authors are members of Study group 2.1 of COST 241.] |
